Two deer for me!

Two deer for me!

Look who came calling this morning. A couple of feral deer have been hanging around the farm for the past couple of days, quite likely because their usual haunt (a property up the hill from me with new owners) now has a few dogs on it. Some friends have told us they’ve seen deer on the road before but this is the first time I’ve seen them here, and so very close too. Shortly after this, they melted away into the trees and I lost track of them. This photo will look a bit grainy because it was taken through two layers; glass and fly wire.

The noxious weed St John’s Wort is springing up all over the farm, so I spent Saturday putting together the spraying equipment I designed. Here’s a picture, although there’s not a lot to see; just visible along the outside edge of the red tray you can see the silvery spray pipe. That’s securely attached under the tray and protected so it won’t get scrapped off (I hope). All I have to do now is connect it all up to the 400l tank’s pump using some spare 3/4″ hose and I’ll be able to quickly spray all the open areas of the farm.

Of course, the farm is mostly NOT open area. But that’s what the hose on the reel is for; getting into all those awkward places where the tractor can’t go. Like under trees and down steep slopes.
